What are the advantages and disadvantages of a laptop on trips abroad?

I plan to take my laptop with me on a trip to Europe (UK & France) so I can blog, upload photos and videos, friends e-mail and Skype etc. Others have done this? If yes, have you ever regretted taking your laptop with me? Would you again?

My laptops have been throughout Europe and South America. I do not travel without one.
